About Us

The Canada 55+ Games is a nation-wide program to sponsor wellness – that is, the spiritual, mental and physical well being – among Canadians 55 years of age and older.  Provincial programs are staged annually in different provinces and territories.  The first national Games were held in Regina in 1998.  The Games should not be categorized as sporting events, as they span a wide range of physical and mental challenges – from slow-pitch to contract bridge and darts to lawn bowling. The Canadian Senior Games Association is the sanctioning body for these Games.

These events bring together amateur competitors who participate for the sheer joy of competition, for the opportunity to visit other parts of Canada and for the camaraderie and social interaction that are integral and essential part of the Games.

The Games bring together relatively small groups, representing their respective provinces or territories.  These groups earn the right as a result of competition against thousands of other seniors in their home province or territory.  The 1500 competitors represent over 10,000 Canadian seniors who actively participate in local events leading up to the national games.

Our Vision is to create a recurring, popular and truly national multi-activity event engaging older Canadians from coast to coast to coast.  The Canada 55+ Games enrich the lives of participants and host communities and are widely recognized for their unique “fun-focused” competition model and for their significant influence on participation in an active and enjoyable lifestyle by all older adults in Canada.

Participants Come First: We believe in respecting participants above all else, never forgetting they come to us by choice

Fun and Safe Games: We believe all Games related sports & activities should be fun and safe for all participants

Balance is Key: We believe the Games must retain a balance of physical, mental and social activities as the comradeship is truly one of the Game’s greatest outcomes and reinforcing the sense among participants that “Win or Lose, they are all winners” is paramount

Fair Play:  We believe in fair play characterized by equity, integrity, trust and respect

Proper Planning:  We believe in the concept of proper planning to ensure maximum efficiency and effectiveness of the Association, its programs and resources

Accountability:  We believe that the Association must strive to be accountable and responsive to the needs of the participants, partners and stakeholders and we must deliver on what we say

The Canadian Senior Games Association delivers the biannual multi-event Canada 55+ Games as a unique blend of active and passive activities and works continuously to influence personal behavior and social supports that encourage healthy, active living for older adults in Canada.
